Norway’s Oslo Philharmonic has appointed VASILY PETRENKO to succeed JUKKA-PEKKA SARASTE as chief conductor, effective in August 2013. The 34-year-old native of St. Petersburg, Russia is currently chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and principal conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. In recent seasons he has made debut appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, the Finnish Radio Symphony, the Orchestra National de France, London’s Philharmonia, the NHK Symphony in Tokyo, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, and the Russian National Orchestra. Petrenko received his education at the St. Petersburg Capella Boys Music School and the St. Petersburg Conservatoire.
