Flutist SHANTANIQUE MOORE has been appointed to a fellowship with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s EQT Orchestra Training Program for African American Musicians (OTPAAM). The two-year fellowship is designed to enable young African American musicians to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of an orchestral career. Moore has performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Symphony, and Fort Wayne Philharmonic, among others. She is the first-prize winner of the Ervin Monroe Young Artist Competition (2016), the Southern Great Lakes Concerto Competition (2013), and the Wayne State Concerto Competition (2012). Moore is a graduate of Wayne State University, with bachelor and master of music degrees in flute performance. During the fellowship period, the selected musician spends two seasons immersed in the working environment of the symphony and studies with orchestra members to prepare for professional auditions. Moore will be the eighth recipient of an OTPAAM fellowship; the program is part of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s diversity plan, which promotes diversity in orchestra settings through leadership recruitment, professional development, and programming. The Pittsburgh Symphony is a partner orchestra of the National Alliance for Audition Support, a field-wide initiative of the Sphinx Organization, New World Symphony, and the League of American Orchestras.
