The Seattle Symphony has announced the appointment of STILIAN KOROV as Douglas F. King Assistant Conductor, effective in September 2012. He will succeed ERIC GARCIA, whose tenure in that post ends this June. Kirov is currently the Seattle Symphony’s conducting fellow, and also serves as associate conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program. Previous posts include assistant conductorships at Colorado’s National Repertory Orchestra (2009) and l’Orchestre de l”Opera de Massy (2005-06). The founding music director of New York City’s Art Symphony Orchestra, he has conducted major orchestras in France, Germany, Italy, Greece, the U.S., and his native Bulgaria. Kirov is a graduate of the Orchestral Conducting Program of The Juilliard School and holds a master’s degree from l’Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. He received further training under Michael Tilson Thomas, Gianluigi Gelmetti, George Manahan, Asher Fisch, James Conlon, Roberto Abbado, and James Levine.
