The Ulster Orchestra (Belfast, Northern Ireland) has announced the appointment of JOANN FALLETTA as principal conductor. In this capacity she will conduct the orchestra for the first time on September 21, 2011, at a special pre-season “Taster Concert” in Ulster Hall. She will have eight engagements with the Ulster Orchestra in the first season of her three-year contract, conducting one quarter of its main-season programs, and will also lead the orchestra in regional concerts and other events. Falletta is music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and was recently named principal guest conductor for the 2011, 2012, and 2013 seasons of the Brevard (N.C.) Music Festival.
