Canada’s Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of ANDREW CRUST as assistant conductor, beginning on September 1, 2019. He will succeed assistant conductor WILLIAM ROWSON, who held the position for three years. Crust will conduct subscription and family concerts as well as VSO Pops and other series. Crust was assistant conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra from 2017 to 2019, and also served as conductor of the Memphis Youth Symphony Program. As assistant conductor of the Portland Symphony Orchestra in Maine from 2016 to 2018, he conducted concerts, helped coordinate educational programs, and helped lead a program for concertgoers under age 40. Crust was the assistant conductor of Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the USA in 2017 and 2018, working with Michael Tilson Thomas, Giancarlo Guerrero, Marin Alsop, and James Ross. He has served as cover or assistant conductor of the Kansas City Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Boulder Philharmonic, and Opera McGill in Canada. Recent and upcoming engagements include concerts with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Lima Symphony Orchestra, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, l’Orchestre de la Francophonie in Québec, and Colorado New Music Ensemble.
