Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras, based in Madison, has announced the appointment of MICHELLE KAEBISCH as conductor of the Philharmonia Orchestra, the second most advanced of WYSO’s four orchestras. The appointment takes effect in September 2013, when she will succeed TOM BUCHHAUSER, the Philharmonia’s conductor for the past 30 years. Kaebisch has played violin in the Madison Symphony Orchestra since 1993, and has served as the MSO’s director of education and community engagement since 2006. From 1995 to 2006 she taught high school orchestra and beginning strings in Wisconsin’s Stoughton Area School District. In her capacity as MSO director of education she authored the 2012 handbook HeartStrings: A Guide to Music Therapy-Informed Engagement for Symphony Orchestras. Kaebisch is co-chair of the League of American Orchestras’ Education & Community Engagement Committee. She holds a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
