The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra will present “Community Engagement Through Music Education,” a one-day workshop offering a comprehensive view of what is happening with the El Sistema movement in the U.S., on April 13. The workshop, at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, will include an address and Q&A with Music Director Marin Alsop, as well as sessions with BSO staff on how to develop an individual or custom program, plus background information on the principles of El Sistema and a tour of West Baltimore, including a visit to one of the sites where the BSO runs its OrchKids afterschool youth music education program. El Sistema is the Venezuelan music-education program founded in 1976 by José Antonio Abreu. The fee for the one-day workshop is $150; reservations are required by March 31. For more information, contact OrchKids Administrative Director Cheryl Goodman at cgoodman@bsomusico.org or 410-783-8025.
