The New Jersey-based Bay-Atlantic Symphony will hold an interdisciplinary master class, “Meditation Through Sound,” with composer and pianist Lee Pui Ming on March 23, co-presented by the Richard Stockton College Division of Arts and Humanities in Galloway Township. The master class, held at 4 p.m., is offered in conjunction with Ming’s performance of her improvised piano concerto She Comes to Shore with the orchestra on March 24 and 25 on a program that also will include Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2. The master class is open to dancers and actors as well as musicians, which Bay-Atlantic Symphony Music Director Jed Gaylin says will “focus participants’ energies and free them from their inner censor.” Ming, born in Hong Kong and now based in Canada, uses classical, jazz, and world music in her compositions and improvisations. She has toured with the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble and released several recordings, including a 2002 CD of improvisations for solo piano, voice, and “miscellaneous objects.”
