“The 2015-16 Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra season is immediately notable for an unusually rich slate of collaborative efforts with other local arts organizations,” writes Kelly Dean Hansen in Thursday’s (3/26) Boulder Daily Camera (Colorado). These include “a semi-staged version of Bach’s towering ‘St. Matthew Passion’ with the Boulder Bach Festival, Central City Opera and University of Colorado Choruses.… Denver-based composer and pianist Charles Denler joins the orchestra in the world premiere of his Portraits in Season inspired by Thoreau.… The performance will be accompanied by projections of photography.… On Jan. 16, 2016, the Phil will perform ‘Dance, American Style,’ ” featuring music by William Schuman, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, with the Boulder Ballet. In February, “Composer Missy Mazzoli is the Phil’s guest in a Music Alive Composer Residency. A performance of her Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres) opens the concert. The piece originally was written for chamber orchestra but will be given in a new expanded orchestration. Mazzoli will spend the week in Boulder with the orchestra and students in various events.” Music Alive is a joint program of the League of American Orchestras and New Music USA. Michael Butterman is the Boulder Philharmonic’s music director.
