In Tuesday’s (10/12) Monterey County Herald (California), Barbara Rose Shuler writes, “Spanish conductor Max Bragado-Darman has signed a new contract with the Monterey Symphony that extends his tenure as music director through the 2014-2015 season. The five-year contract for the popular conductor concludes a long negotiation period that included input from symphony patrons and supporters. … Bragado says he is delighted with the new contract and is looking forward to working with the board of directors and staff to shape the music and educational programs of the symphony. ‘I thank the staff, the board and the orchestra and the community for their support in making possible this agreement, this happy marriage,’ he said. … ‘I think it is important not only that the orchestra creates great music but that the organization reaches out to our community as never before.’ Bragado has held the position of music director of the Monterey Symphony since July 2004. … The symphony season kicks off its 65th anniversary season this week with a gala dinner, men’s clothing fashion show and live auction at the Carmel Plaza on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 6 to 9p.m.”
