“Michael Butterman will remain the ‘face of classical music in Boulder’ as music director of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra through the 2018-19 season,” states an unsigned article in Wednesday’s (10/29) Daily Camera (Colorado). “Butterman, who started with the BPO in 2006-07, has agreed to a five-year extension, orchestra officials announced Wednesday. … Subscriptions have increased steadily since Butterman took the BPO helm, according to orchestra officials, who credit programming that has included collaborations with 45 local organizations ranging from the arts, sciences, nature, youth and social services. Orchestra officials spotlighted Butterman’s Discovery Concert program, which reaches thousands of elementary students at 28 schools each year. Also during Butterman’s tenure, the Boulder Philharmonic presence has expanded in Colorado with concert performances in Arvada, Denver, Highlands Ranch and Lakewood and … the prestigious Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek. … Butterman’s extension with the BPO comes on the heels of a new four-year deal as music director of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra in Louisiana. In addition, Butterman serves as resident conductor of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Florida, principal conductor for education and community engagement of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra in New York and, most recently, as music director of the Pennsylvania Philharmonic, which is in its inaugural season.”
