“Andrei Feher, who at age 26 has an international reputation as a conductor, is the new music director for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony,” writes Luisa D’Amato in Friday’s (3/31) Record (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada). “Feher spoke glowingly of the orchestra’s musicians and of the acoustic design of Kitchener’s concert hall, Centre in the Square. He experienced both when he was guest conductor for a concert last November. ‘From the first seconds with the orchestra, the connection was so powerful,’ he said…. Feher was most recently the assistant conductor to music director Paavo Järvi at Orchestre de Paris in France. Before that he was training as a conductor with Yannick Nézet-Séguin at Orchestre Métropolitan in Montreal, and was assistant conductor at the Québec Symphony Orchestra. On Friday, Feher signed his four-year contract in front of a beaming crowd of symphony subscribers, donors, local politicians and arts leaders … He charmed them, too, by playing a couple of short violin duets with the symphony’s concertmaster, Bénédicte Lauzière…. Although he was born in Romania and studied in Montreal after immigrating with his family to Canada, Feher made an early connection with Kitchener-Waterloo when he studied with [former Kitchener-Waterloo Music Director] Raffi Armenian at the Montreal Conservatoire.”
