In Thursday’s (4/1) Cape Cod Times (Massachusetts), Sarah Shemkus writes, “Two of Cape Cod’s major music and arts organizations are planning to merge before the summer is out. The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and the Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts announced yesterday that they intend to join forces, creating the largest nonprofit arts organization on the Cape and allowing them to expand their program offerings in the region. … To reach this goal, the two groups will need to raise $300,000 by the end of June, representatives of the organizations explained during a meeting with the Times yesterday. … Kicking off the capital campaign, a trio of area charitable groups—the Bilezikian Family Foundation, the Cape Cod Foundation and the Edward Bangs Kelley and Elza Kelley Foundation—have made a challenge grant of $100,000. … The merger would create a new group known as Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra Inc. … The symphony and conservatory would each have their own management team, but one board would preside over the entire merged organization. … By creating one body with integrated legal, financial and operational functions, the two groups would become more efficient, freeing up resources they can then use to offer more programs, expand the marketing department and hire more instructors.”
