Nathan Lutz, newly named executive director of California’s Carmel Bach Festival.

In Monday’s (4/15) Monterey County Weekly, Agata Popęda writes, “The upcoming 87th Carmel Bach Festival is rolling out on July 13 and runs until July 27…. The festival board [has hired] Nathan Lutz as executive director. He brings to the table a decade of music administration experience from his work with three major U.S. orchestras. ‘The Carmel Bach Festival has been in my life since childhood as my double bass teacher, Derek Weller, has been a dedicated member of the orchestra for almost 30 years,’ Lutz shared in a press release…. Lutz has served as the director of operations and education programs at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for the past seven years, where he was responsible for a $10 million artistic operations budget, managing the orchestra and concert production, negotiating collective bargaining agreements, overseeing the music education department and planning the youth and family concert series. Previously, he was assistant personnel manager for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and a double bass fellow for the New World Symphony in Miami. ‘I’m honored to join the Carmel Bach Festival,’ Lutz added. ‘I am especially excited to support the artistic leadership of Grete Pederson [principal conductor and artistic director] and Andrew Megill [artistic adviser and director of choral activities].’ ”
