“Carmel Symphony Orchestra musicians can be found scattered across local restaurants this summer as part of Symphony on the Go, the CSO’s new initiative to bring the city live music without the concert halls,” writes Christine Fernando in Thursday’s (7/16) Indianapolis Star. “The small outdoor ensembles began their season on June 10, using masks and social distancing where possible. Remaining concerts include … a string quartet performance to close the series Aug. 29 at Urban Vines Winery & Brewery…. Symphony on the Go will … be among trombonist Richard Dole’s first performances since the coronavirus hit…. July 30 will give Dole a chance to bring his jazz tunes to a live audience once again at Midtown Plaza.… Symphony on the Go is also a chance to earn back lost income through gigs. ‘My number one goal was to get them working and get them playing,’ CSO Artistic Director Janna Hymes said…. More than financial benefits, [Principal Harp Melanie] Mashner said the coronavirus has given her a new appreciation for in-person concerts.… The CSO plans to do backyard concerts in September before kicking off its recently announced new season on Oct. 10.”
