Cellist Amit Peled and his Mount Vernon Virtuosi ensemble have released a new performance film featuring the world premiere of John Clayton’s The Hill We Climb, set to the poem of the same name by Amanda Gorman, which she recited at the presidential inauguration in January 2021. Cellists featured in the film, in addition to Peled, include Natalia Vilchis, Nick Pascucci, Lindsey Choung, Mairéad Flory, Kyle Victor, Jiaoyang Sunny Xu, and Álvaro Vázquez Osa. The film was recorded in June 2021 by producer Matt Carr. The Mount Vernon Virtuosi is a chamber string orchestra based in Baltimore, Maryland, founded in 2018 by Peled; it supports the artistic growth of young musicians beginning their professional careers. Peled and the ensemble filmed The Hill We Climb at the Station Foundation in Bozeman, Montana, an organization that helps members of the U.S. Special Operations Community reintegrate back into civilian life. Peled says, “After such a turbulent time around the world due to Covid coupled with the continuous struggle for more equality in our country, the making of this film has been a torch of hope and strength for all of us who were involved in its creation.” Watch the video at https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ6z0Nik_u0.
