The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia has announced details of its 2011-12 season at the Kimmel Center, under Music Director Dirk Brossé. The season will open on September 18 with Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides” Overture, Brossé’s Elegy for Strings, Schubert’s Symphony No. 3, and the Hummel Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major, with soloist Alison Balsom. Anthony McGill, principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, will join the orchestra in February for a commissioned world premiere by Steven Mackey, as well as Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major. Among other season highlights are Handel’s “Water Music” Suite No. 1 and Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” with Philadelphia Orchestra Concertmaster David Kim on violin and as conductor. Conductor Laureate Ignat Solzhenitsyn will return for two March all-Beethoven concerts in which he serves as pianist and conductor for the Piano Concerto No. 4 and Symphony No. 3 (“Eroica”).
