“Eye-popping designs. Twirling constellations…. Shapes popping out of the architecture, and falling from the sky,” writes Janelle Gelfand in Sunday’s (7/31) Cincinnati Enquirer (Ohio). “That’s some of what you’ll see in this year’s ‘Lumenocity: Re-Imagine,’ a high-tech spectacle of symphonic music and light. Unlike the previous three outdoor Lumenocity shows, it will be indoors at the Taft Theatre, Downtown, Aug. 5-7,” with visuals by the Cincinnati-based Lightborne company. “Animators at Lightborne were putting finishing touches on the colorful fantasies that will accompany six pieces of music performed live by the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra…. Previous Lumenocity light shows wowed tens of thousands of people in Washington Park when animations were projected onto Music Hall’s facade. This time … the show [has been moved] indoors due to construction at Music Hall…. Even though the creative team met with CSO conductor Louis Langrée and Pops maestro John Morris Russell to learn about the music, their interpretations are not literal. The idea was not to show … the Sharks and Jets in a rumble to Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story,’ [creative director Ryan] McAllister said. ‘If you’ve never seen what this music was originally intended for, what pops into your head?’ he said.”
