“As Greater Cincinnati chamber music aficionados already know, the area is a hotbed of … smaller ensembles,” writes David Lyman in Sunday’s (11/12) Cincinnati Enquirer (Ohio). “And this week, three of those organizations bring a variety of musical offerings to the stage. Chamber Music Cincinnati presents the Tetzlaff String Quartet … [and] the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and the Vocal Arts Ensemble perform.… Concert:nova has a pair of concerts at the Cincinnati Art Museum…. Ixi Chen, managing artistic director of concert:nova [is] also a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, so she fully understands the appeal of a full-bodied instrumental ensemble…. The experience with a smaller group, she says … allows individual parts to stand out … The University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music is a major source of [chamber] musicians, as is the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The first artistic director of the Linton Chamber Music Series, for instance, was former CSO clarinetist Richard Waller…. Nearly always, concert:nova’s presentations involve collaborators. [For] this week’s performances of ‘The Art of Fugue’ at the Cincinnati Art Museum, concert:nova has invited MamLuft&Co. Dance.… ‘With MamLuft involved, you’ll not only be hearing individual musical voices, but you’ll be seeing them, too,’ says Chen.”
