Martina Filjak, who was awarded Mixon First Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition in August, is set to give her New York debut recital next month, one of more than 50 worldwide engagements that come with the package for winners of that competition. For her December 14 program at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, Filjak will perform Ravel’s “Une barque sur l’océan” (from Miroirs No. 3); “Wasserklavier,” “Feuerklavier,” and “Luftklavier” from Berio’s Six Encores for Piano; Bartók’s Out of Doors; and Beethoven’s “Hammerklavier” Sonata. As winner of the Cleveland competition, Filjak also receives $50,000 and a CD recording on Naxos. The 34-year-old Cleveland International Piano Competition takes place every other year; previous winners include Alexander Ghindin, Angela Hewitt, Per Tengstrand, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Sergei Babayan.
