In Tuesday’s (8/20) edition of The Plain Dealer (Cleveland), Zachary Lewis reports the Cleveland Orchestra’s appointment of Jennifer Barlament as general manager, effective September 23. She will assume “the critical post last held by Gary Ginstling, who stepped down in February to become chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Barlament comes to Cleveland by way of Michigan, where she has served as executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony, led by music director Raymond Harvey, since 2009. Prior to that, starting in 2002, she was general manager of the Omaha Symphony in Nebraska.” As a Fellow in the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship Program, Barlament “completed … assignments with the San Francisco Symphony, the New Jersey Symphony and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, where she later returned and served as director of special projects. She also has been concert manager of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.… A musician by training, Barlament holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Emory University and a master’s degree in clarinet performance from the Eastman School of Music.… There, she founded the New Eastman Symphony. Earlier this year, she was awarded the Helen M. Thompson Award by the League of American Orchestras.”
