On June 12 in Estes Park, Colorado, the Oratorio Society of Estes Park will perform the world premiere of Robert Howard’s Wilderness Reflections, a cantata based on poems of the poet and naturalist Wendell Berry. Howard, who is music director of the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale in Illinois, was commissioned to write the work by the Oratorio Society of Estes Park and its director, Kathryn Smith Bowers, to mark the centennial of Rocky Mountain National Park in 2015. Bowers will lead the program, which includes Haydn’s oratorio The Seasons and a second commissioned work, Rocky Mountain Majesty, by Jerry Brubaker, an Estes Park resident. Robert Howard has served as music director of the Belleville Philharmonic since 1995.
