Composer and concert presenter Dan Visconti is one of the 21 people recently named TED Fellows for 2014. Visconti will speak about new music and innovative concert experiences at the next TED Conference, set to take place in Vancouver, Canada, from March 17 to 21. Visconti, a recipient of the 2013-14 Samuel Barber Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, designs education programs for young composers as a member of Chicago’s Fifth House Ensemble; he has written articles for Symphony magazine and contributes regularly to New Music Box. Among the other TED Fellows for 2014 are Steve Boyes, a conservation biologist from South Arica; Aziza Chaouni, an architect and ecotourism specialist from Morocco; and Bora Yoon, a Korean-American musician and sound architect who creates immersive audiovisual soundscapes. More information on the 2014 TED Fellows is available at the TED website http://www.ted.com/pages/fellows_TED2014. TED is a nonprofit established in 1986 by author and publisher Chris Anderson; it encompasses an annual conference of ideas and gives an annual $1 million prize, as well as sponsoring other events throughout the year. Visconti’s next article for Symphony, about orchestral programs for young composers, will appear in the Winter issue of the magazine.
