The Dallas Symphony Association and the Dallas-Fort Worth Professional Musicians Association jointly announced the settlement of a new two-year collective bargaining agreement. The new agreement, ratified June 20, will go into effect on September 1, 2009 and extends through August 2011. It replaces a five-year agreement that expires on August 31, 2009. The agreement includes a two-year freeze of minimum salary at the 2008-09 compensation level ($90,034 per year for each year of the contract) for musicians and a scaled increase in pension benefits. In addition, two full-time librarians were added to the bargaining unit, and pension benefits were added during year two of the contract for part-time musicians. Negotiations for the contract began on May 18. DSO President Douglas Adams commented that the contract was settled “in record time” and will allow the orchestra to operate prudently during the worldwide economic downturn without compromising artistic goals.
