“The Kansas City Symphony wrapped up its seven-month national search for a new executive director and hired Daniel Beckley, who most recently was vice president and general manager of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra,” writes Leslie Collins in Tuesday’s (3/19) Kansas City Business Journal. “Beckley succeeds Frank Byrne, who’s retiring this year after a 19-year tenure…. Beckley joined the Indianapolis symphony in 2013 and has held leadership roles throughout his career, including executive director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina and managing director/CTO at Charleston-based BlueKey Web Solutions, a company he co-founded. Music Director Michael Stern said in the release that … he’s confident Beckley will ‘forge ahead with the kind of projects and possibilities that have led to our success over the last 15 years.’ To create a smooth transition, Beckley will work alongside Byrne starting in late May and officially assume his new role July 29. Beckley will be tasked with overseeing all aspects of administration and management of the symphony, which has an annual budget of $19.8 million. He also will work with Stern on programming and artistic planning and other initiatives. The Kansas City Symphony was founded in 1982 and performs nearly 200 concerts annually.” Beckley is an alumnus of the League of American Orchestras’ 2012 Essentials of Orchestra Management program.
