“The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will once again perform live from Orchestra Hall beginning in September,” writes Sherri Welch in Tuesday’s (8/25) Crain’s Detroit Business. “Audience members will not be in attendance, but the concerts will be livestreamed on Thursday and Friday nights through the end of the season in December…. The DSO Digital Concerts will be about 45 minutes and available live and on-demand.… Newly appointed DSO Music Director Jader Bignamini launches DSO Digital Concerts with four programs … Sept. 10-11 and 17-18…. DSO will temporarily suspend the free live webcasts it’s offered since 2011, while continuing to make DSO Replay, its archive of past webcasts, available at no charge. Subscribers who won’t be able to see the in-person concerts … and donors will have access to the live and on-demand webcasts at no charge. Others will be charged $12, with individual tickets available for purchase … in early September…. Orchestras in other parts of the country are performing with smaller ensembles and smaller audiences—if any audience at all—and streaming those performances either live or through a recording, said Celeste Wroblewski, vice president of marketing and communications for the League of American Orchestras.”
