The Detroit Symphony Orchestra will host its first yoga class on January 26, with live chamber music accompaniment, as part of its Mix @ The Max series of $25 casual performances launched in 2012. Co-leading the one-hour “Om @ The Max” class at the Music Box space at the Max M. Fisher Music Center will be DSO Librarian and yoga instructor Ethan Allen, with music performed by a DSO string quartet, synchronized to the yoga movements. Allen has been the DSO’s librarian since 2005, and also currently teaches five yoga classes a week at the Yoga Shelter in Grosse Pointe and downtown Detroit. Following the class, there will be snacks and a raw juice bar available in the atrium. In addition to January’s yoga class, the DSO’s past and future Mix @ The Max events have featured the Brooklyn-based chamber orchestra The Knights; tango performances, with audiences encouraged to dance; and jazz-age music with cocktails and food served.
