Wittry be will receive her honor, along with other Allentown-area individuals and organizations, at the Allentown Arts Commission’s 31st Arts Ovation Award at Allentown’s Miller Symphony Hall on September 26. “The symphony association’s El Sistema Lehigh Valley program, which gives students two hours of music classes and tutoring a day, and a new degree of community recognition, also will be honored for Outstanding Achievement in Arts Education…. Wittry has written two books … ‘Beyond the Baton’ [and] ‘Baton Basics—Communicating Music Through Gestures.’ … She’s also a sought-out conducting teacher and mentor… Since joining Allentown Symphony, Wittry has expanded the orchestra to perform throughout the region. In recent years, ASO performed a … concert at the Levitt Pavilion in Bethlehem, an orchestra-on-ice program at Allentown’s PPL Center, and a concert this spring at State Theatre in Easton. Last year, Wittry agreed to extend her contract through 2021.”
