In Friday’s (6/7) Houston Public Media, Jason Zinn reports, “For many composers today, getting music performed by large ensembles like symphony orchestras can actually be a rare occurrence. It takes a lot to assemble that number of musicians, especially when professional orchestras already have other works to prepare! The national League of American Orchestras and the American Composers Orchestra offer a program to help composers with that very thing called the EarShot Readings. Participating composers get to work with established mentor composers as well as the other musicians involved in the process, learning how to work with ensembles on preparing large-scale pieces of music…. Coinciding with the League of American Orchestra’s 2024 National Conference in Houston, EarShot has partnered with ROCO, the local chamber orchestra, to read through four works by composers in their early careers. Then, ROCO will perform one of those works alongside some of their past commissioned works in a concert today at 11 AM.” The 10-minute audio report includes comments from individuals involved in the workshop.
