For the third annual Rapido! Composition Contest, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is inviting composers to submit chamber-music compositions between four and six minutes in length. The registration deadline for the contest is June 1. Composers may be of any age but must reside or be full-time students in the U.S., with registration divided into five geographic regions and entry limited to the first 100 applicants per region. The contest winner will receive $7,500 and his or her winning chamber work will be performed in five U.S. cities in fall 2013 by the Atlanta Chamber Players, Boston Musica Viva, Fifth House Ensemble of Chicago, Voices of Change of Dallas, and Left Coast Chamber Ensemble of San Francisco. The contest winner also will compose an orchestral work to be premiered by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in spring 2014. The competition will take place from June 11-25, 2012; fifteen semifinalists will each receive $500, and five finalists will receive an additional $500. An audience favorite prize of $500 will also be awarded to one of the five finalists, based on internet vote. The contest was founded in 2009 by the Atlanta Chamber Players and the Antinori Foundation to promote new chamber music compositions and encourage new compositions by underrepresented composers of all levels of experience.
