“The Erie Chamber Orchestra’s season came to a close Saturday night with a performance at Erie’s First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant,” writes Jack Hanrahan in Sunday’s (4/29) GoErie.com (Pennsylvania). “The performance was also the grand finale for the 40-piece orchestra. The orchestra, founded in 1978 by Bruce Morton Wright and supported by Gannon University, announced it would officially disband at the end of its current season after 40 years of offering free concerts. ‘Tonight is bittersweet,’ said Camille Pierce, 27, general manager of the Erie Chamber Orchestra. ‘Some of the musicians have been here for 40 years. Knowing that this is the end is very sad.’… Although the orchestra is disbanding it will begin a new chapter next year as the Erie Philharmonic’s new Bruce Morton Wright Chamber Series, which will feature smaller ensembles and perform free concerts around the Erie community.” The final concert featured soprano Jennifer Davison in Beethoven’s ‘Ah! Perfido’ and Haydn’s aria from ‘Scena di Berenice.’ Also performed in the final concert were Beethoven’s “Eroica” Symphony and works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Mozart.
