The California Symphony will perform its annual free outdoor community concert on August 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Todos Santos Plaza in downtown Concord, California. Donato Cabrera, the orchestra’s music director since 2013, will lead a program of swing, jazz, film, and Broadway music selections, with soprano Lisa Vroman. It is the fifteenth year for the event, which is typically attended by an audience of about 5,000. The California Symphony opens its main 2014-15 concert season on September 21 the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, with Cabrera leading Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, the Bacchanale from Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila, Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture, Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances, and Ravel’s Bolero.
