For its “All About Austin” concerts on February 26 and 27 at the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Austin Symphony has programmed four works, each with a connection to Austin, Texas. Music Director Peter Bay will lead two pieces by Austin composers: J’ai été au bal (1999/2004) by Donald Grantham and An Invocation (2012) by Steven Serpa, the latter featuring ASO Principal Oboe Beth Sanders. Anton Nel, a longtime piano faculty member at the University of Texas/Austin, will perform as soloist in Saint-Saëns’s Piano Concerto No. 5. The concert will conclude with Copland’s “Rodeo,” a nod to the city’s annual Austin Rodeo, taking place this year from March 12 to 26.
