“If you want to know how to get to Carnegie Hall, just ask Rebecca Krown of Milford Township or Miles Shore of Lower Makefield,” writes Liz Johnson in Wednesday’s (11/5) Bucks County Courier Times (Pennsylvania). “The two Bucks County teens played the New York City venue this summer as part of the National Youth Orchestra [of the USA], an elite group of young musicians….  Both teens play the bassoon. Krown … said she fell in love with the instrument as a child while watching her mother, a flutist, perform in an orchestra. ‘I would see the bassoon onstage and knew that’s what I wanted to play,’ she said…. Both Miles and Krown play in the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra…. Miles and Krown were among 420 teen musicians from around the country chosen to participate in the program which took place from July 5 through Aug. 5, beginning with two weeks of instruction by conductor James Roth … followed by a two-week tour of the country … led by David Robertson, who conducts for the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Australia. ‘He took us seriously as mature, professional adults,’ said Krown. ‘He was able to get me to play on a whole other level.’ ”
