Thursday’s (10/22) Coloradoan (Fort Collins, Colorado) reports, “The Fort Collins Symphony is getting everyone in on the opening of its 60th season. Saturday’s show honoring Beethoven will include performances by the Larimer Chorale, Opera Fort Collins, even Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson will be getting in on the act. Hutchinson will present a city proclamation honoring the symphony as the oldest arts organization and only professional orchestra in Northern Colorado. The symphony has come a long way in its 60 years. Music director Wes Kenney only is the Symphony’s third conductor; Will Schwartz, who founded the orchestra in 1949 and will be honored before the concert, served as director for the first 50 years. The orchestra’s first rehearsal Oct. 5 of that year included only 17 musicians; today, the symphony feature more than 80 musicians. … Kenney described the 2009-2010 Masterworks Season, ‘A Celebration of Sound,’ as ‘an opportunity to assess just how much the Fort Collins Symphony has grown since its inception.’ ”
