People facing cancer face special challenges—and music therapy and music listening can help them and their families. The National Endowment for the Arts Task Force on the Arts and Human Development will present a free public webinar on the topic on September 16 from 3 to 4 pm ET. Presenters include American Music Therapy Association Executive Director Dr. Andi Farbman; music therapy researchers Dr. Debra Burns and Dr. Sheri L. Robb; and Dr. Nolan Gasser, a pianist and composer who is working with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on an algorithm to match musical repertoires to the tastes of individuals with cancer, with the aim of allaying their symptoms. Sunil Iyengar, the NEA’s director of research and analysis, will moderate the webinar.
