In Friday’s (5/6) Post Star (Glens Falls, New York), Doug Gruse writes “Without Hugh Allen Wilson, the musical landscape of upstate New York might have been as barren as a frozen field in the middle of winter. ‘He was responsible for plowing new ground, for tilling the old soil for planting every year and insuring the healthiness of the musical crop,’ Charles Peltz, current music director of the Glens Falls Symphony, said of Wilson, the orchestra’s music director emeritus. Wilson, who died in December at his home in Bolton Landing, will be remembered at the symphony’s ‘The Towering Tchaikovsky’ concert on Sunday at Glens Falls High School. The Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra expanded its scope from a community group to a full-time professional orchestra with Wilson as conductor from 1984 to 1998. … In addition to the Wilson tribute, the symphony’s program will feature Tchaikovsky’s ‘Symphony No. 4,’ Mozart’s overture to ‘The Impresario’ and Osvaldo Golijov’s ‘Sidereus.’ The symphony is one of 35 orchestras performing Golijov’s original eight-minute composition, which was commissioned by a consortium of orchestras, including Glens Falls, to honor Henry Fogel, the former president of the League of American Orchestras and a champion of classical music.”
