Wednesday’s (10/3) Times-News (Blue Ridge, North Carolina) reports, “The Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra’s third- and sixth-grade Educational Concert Program has been awarded a grant from Target Corporation. Grant funds were given in recognition of the efforts of the HSO to provide concerts for more than 2,400 third- and sixth-graders in Henderson County, the orchestra said in a news release. The grant will provide an opportunity for the students to develop an understanding and appreciation of symphonic music. … The HSO’s Grade School Education Concert outreach program has been offered for over 17 years. In that time, more than 40,000 youngsters have experienced a first-hand connection with the arts through this hands-on, interactive opportunity to witness and appreciate classical music, according to the release. … ‘The third- and sixth-grade Education Concerts are the most important concerts we perform,’ Tom Joiner, who is starting his 15th year as music director and conductor of the Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, said in the release. ‘This is our audience of tomorrow.’ ”
