For its concerts on June 4 and 17, the Houston Symphony has incorporated events specifically for fans who follow the orchestra on Twitter. The orchestra will partner with the Houston Museum of Natural Science to host the first-ever “Tweetup” in conjunction with its June 4 concert, an evening entitled “Hubble & Holst in Houston.” Beginning at 5:30 p.m., small groups of orchestra musicians will perform at the museum; there will also be a private showing of the museum’s IMAX film Hubble 3D and a movie trailer for the orchestra’s concert program, The Planets—An HD Odyssey. On June 17, the orchestra will host its first “Tweetcert” at Miller Outdoor Theatre; during the performance a series of tweets will be posted on the orchestra’s Twitter feed with updated program notes about the music. The two Twitter events are part of the Houston Symphony’s growing incorporation of digital technology, which this year included a new iPhone app, redesigned website, and the use of mobile marketing, blogging, and social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube.
