“The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra announced today that it will initiate a six-concert classical series this season in the Palladium at the Center for Performing Arts in Carmel,” writes Tom Aldridge on Friday (8/22) at Nuvo.net (Indianapolis). “The series begins with Handel’s Messiah on Dec. 19 and ends with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on June 14…. The ISO concluded its Pops series programs on Sunday evenings at the Palladium through the 2012-2013 season, but it has done few classical programs at the venue. ‘Our new Palladium Series reinforces that the ISO is committed to sharing great symphonic music with as many people as possible in our community,’ said Gary Ginstling, chief executive officer of the ISO. ‘The series gives our north side communities an opportunity to experience a wide range of electrifying orchestral music.’ … The six-concert series includes four performances with ISO music director Krzysztof Urbański.… His Palladium conducting debut with Shostakovich’s Seventh (‘Leningrad’) Symphony [will take place] on Saturday, Feb. 7…. The ISO served as the Palladium’s first orchestral ‘acoustical test’ before the facility was complete and open to the public in January of 2011.” The bulk of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s classical season takes place at the 1,600-seat Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis.
