The Indigo Girls, singer-songwriters Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, “have dabbled with a variety of sounds, but they are considered an acoustic duo,” writes Rich Lopez in Monday’s (10/1) Midland Reporter-Telegram (Midland, TX). “But on Saturday they will team up with the Midland Odessa Symphony and Chorale. The Pops Series concert expands on the Indigo Girls’ recent foray into orchestral backing on their signature songs…. This summer, the Indigo Girls released ‘Live with the University of Colorado Symphony Orchestra.’ Q: The Indigo Girls have been around for more than 30 years. What brought you to this avenue? Saliers: I’ve always liked hybrid experiences, especially with different genres and different artists. And this has been fulfilling for us. Q: What’s been the difference for you in playing a typical Indigo Girls concert compared to a symphonic one? Saliers: It’s so cool because these songs like ‘Closer to Fine,’ I can’t hear them without the orchestra. They’ve brought new life to all these songs…. This orchestral journey now has us starting to think what we haven’t done. Q: How are your fans responding? Saliers: They love it and then we have the symphony supporters coming to see us…. It’s cool.”
