“The San Francisco Conservatory of Music has named Jonas Wright as dean and chief academic officer,” writes Nicholas Beard in Friday’s (12/7) Musical America (subscription required). “He has been serving as interim since the departure of provost and dean Kate Sheeran, now executive director of Manhattan’s Kaufman Center. Previously, Wright was for six years the school’s registrar and associate dean for academic affairs, posts that he filled to significant effect, including transitioning the school to online registration and grading and consolidating academic support. ‘His exceptional judgment and acumen as a leader and facilitator has inspired all of us and earned the comprehensive and enthusiastic endorsement of our faculty,’ said SFCM President David H. Stull. Wright pointed out that the school ‘is at a thrilling crossroads … and I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities ahead of all of us.’ … Construction is underway on the school’s new, $185 million arts center and residence, Esa-Pekka Salonen just signed on as music director of the San Francisco Symphony at the Nearby Davies Hall, and several days ago pianist Jeremy Denk joined the faculty.”
