“The Kansas City Symphony received a multimillion-dollar donation that will endow the assistant conductor position,” states an unsigned report in Wednesday’s (7/20) Kansas City Business Journal. “The David T. Beals III Trust donated $2.7 million, and the assistant conductor position has been named the David T. Beals III Chair. ‘We are humbled that the David Beals Trust is supporting the Kansas City Symphony in such a profound way,’ Symphony Executive Director Frank Byrne said in a release. ‘This inspiring gesture reflects David Beals’ exceptional philanthropic spirit, a legacy that now will live on in perpetuity through the symphony’s work in Helzberg Hall and throughout our community.’ In addition to conducting special concerts, such as the Classic Uncorked series and holiday concerts, the assistant conductor also helps develop the symphony’s education programs. ‘The permanent funding provided by the Beals Trust is truly a gift to the whole community,’ Symphony Board Chair William Lyons said in a release. The symphony has more than 100 performances each season and has attracted attendees from nearly all 50 states during the past five seasons.”
