Keith Lockhart—conductor of the Boston Pops and principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra—will lead the BBC Concert Orchestra in the Diamond Jubilee Concert for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, today at 7:30 p.m. (London time). The concert—for which Lockhart will be joined by pianist Lang Lang, soprano Renée Fleming, and tenor Alfie Boe—is the culminating event of a four-day celebration throughout the U.K. of the 60th anniversary of the queen’s ascension to the throne. Lockhart and the orchestra will perform at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace before the queen, members of the Royal Family, the Duke of Edinburgh, and 10,000 members of the British public. The concert will be broadcast live in the U.K. on various channels of the BBC, and highlights will be aired in the U.S. on ABC on June 5 at 9 p.m. ET. Lockhart returns to the U.S. on June 5 to continue the Boston Pops’ spring season, which runs through June 16 at Boston’s Symphony Hall.
