An unsigned news item in Sunday’s (8/1) Miami Herald reports that the city’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts “has just gotten a big boost: a $600,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Arts Program.” The Knight money, to be matched with $1.2 million in private and corporate funds, “will provide classical music and dance performances through 2013. ‘We are committed to solidifying the Masterworks season as a permanent fixture in our repertoire,’ M. John Richard, Arsht Center president and CEO, said in a statement. The 12-event season includes the Sanford and Dolores Ziff Classical Music Series, a Signature Dance Series and four pops performances. Highlights include the Miami premiere of the Tania Pérez-Salas Compañia de Danza in a performance celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mexican independence on Oct. 2; Hubbard Street Dance Chicago on Dec. 11; violin virtuoso Joshua Bell on Jan. 18; and The 5 Browns on March 30.”
