“The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra took a step into the future on Tuesday by announcing the selection of Aram Demirjian as the orchestra’s eighth music director and conductor,” writes Harold Duckett in the News Sentinel (Knoxville, Tenn.) on Tuesday (5/31). He succeeds Lucas Richman, who led the orchestra from 2003 until May 2015. “Demirjian came out on top after a yearlong search that brought conducting talent to Knoxville to perform with the KSO.” At the Kansas City Symphony, where is completing four years as associate conductor, Demirjian “was instrumental in designing and launching a series of concerts called ‘Classics Uncorked’ that uses narration, visual effects, musical demonstrations and audience interaction. He plans to continue the KSO’s tradition of educational concerts for schoolchildren. With the Kansas City Symphony, he programmed, scripted and conducted education concerts for more than 40,000 students each year.” Demirjian holds a bachelor’s degree in music and government from Harvard University and a master’s degree from New England Conservatory. “ ‘After a very involved search process, Aram Demirjian will lead the KSO into its next era and we couldn’t be happier….
