The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s 100th-anniversary season will open on September 27 with the world premiere of a commissioned score, Julia Adolphe’s Underneath the Sheen, led by Music Director Gustavo Dudamel. Also performing on the program, curated by opera and theater director Elkhanah Pulitzer and featuring California composers, will be vocalists Corinne Bailey Rae and Chris Martin, electric violinist Tracy Silverman, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Music will include John Adams’s Harmonium: “Wild Nights” and Dharma at Big Sur: Part 2, Sri Moonshine; Frank Zappa’s G-Spot Tornado; the Love Theme from Jerry Goldsmith’s score to Chinatown; and California-themed songs announced from the stage. The evening will include the unveiling of the art installation WDCH Dreams by Refik Anadol, projected onto the exterior of Disney Concert Hall. There will be a post-concert party with music by Pink Martini and deejay Jason Bentley.
