“The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra has long been a vibrant, robust organization dedicated to serving greater Lancaster through world-class musical entertainment,” writes Jeff Falk in Tuesday’s (11/30) TheBurg (Harrisburg PA). “This current season marks the orchestra’s 75th anniversary. In addition, it is heading down the home stretch of a search process to identify a new conductor who will help shape the direction of the orchestra well into the future. ‘I think, at the core of it, the message is that we’re back after a very difficult time for everyone,’ said Guy McIntosh, the LSO’s executive director…. The LSO, he said, started as a community-based orchestra…. Today, the orchestra features an active roster of 50 to 80 local, regional and nationally recognized musicians…. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the LSO went 18 months without performing a live show… In September, the LSO finally re-opened live with the triumphant celebration, ‘The Return.’ … From 190 original [music director] applicants, … all that remains are the final four—Jayce Ogren, Delta David Gier, Michael Butterman and Chelsea Gallo…. The LSO is expected to name a new permanent conductor in late spring of 2022 … that person will become just their third music director ever.”
