In Friday’s (9/10) Idaho State Journal (Pocatello), John O’Connell writes that this year, Heather Sandy’s four children “are enrolled in an online charter school based in Boise, called Connections Academy. Though the arts may be taking funding hits in mainstream schools, the children are bound to get a heavy dose of music through their home classroom experience. Sandy is the new executive director of the Idaho State Civic Symphony, where she also plays the cello. … As the new executive director, Sandy wears a number of hats, including heading season ticket sales, serving as a liaison to donors, grant writing, payroll, financials, program writing and overseeing symphony committees. With the first concert approaching on Oct. 1, the part-time job has demanded a full-time commitment lately. Sandy will also serve as a liaison working with guest artists, the part of the job she’s most excited about. … ‘My mother was a Suzuki (method) violin teacher. Not playing an instrument wasn’t an option,’ Sandy said. Sandy grew up in Pennsylvania and is a former marketing manager for Hewlett Packard in Washington, D.C.”
