“The Maryland Symphony Orchestra’s executive director went before the Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday, sharing a vision for the organization’s future and a desire to collaborate with community partners to improve programming and quality of life in the city and beyond,” writes CJ Lovelace in Wednesday’s (7/18) Herald Mail (Hagerstown, MD). “ ‘This is the first of many conversations we’ll be having with the community to understand what are the opportunities we have to address civic challenges and needs,’ Stephen Marc Beaudoin said. ‘The MSO is proud to call Hagerstown home.’ Beaudoin, who took over the helm of the orchestra last September, recapped the past fiscal year for the MSO, highlighted by attendance at concerts topping 60,000 and several new programs. The MSO also served more than 11,400 students through education programs and raised more than $110,000 with its MSO Symphony Ball fundraiser, a record. Additionally, the orchestra saw subscriptions rise 7 percent and single-ticket sales increase 21 percent, a trend boosted by the MSO’s Disney concert this past April. It was the highest grossing show in the organization’s 36-year history. Council members thanked Beaudoin for his continued commitment and excitement for local arts and entertainment, calling them ‘fundamentals of the community.’ ”
